Dean Ian Ferguson welcomes Sohyung Cho, Ph.D., to the College as the new Department
Chair of ISYE. “Dr. Cho brings to SPCEET a wealth of knowledge, with extensive experience in leadership,
program expansion, and advanced engineering studies. His research specializing in
the development of a hand motion-based assessment system for robotic surgery will
establish a new effort here. I am confident that Dr. Cho’s expertise will propel the
momentum of ISYE and the college’s programs to continued success.” Dr. Cho comes to KSU from Southern Illinois University, serving as the founding Department
Chair for Industrial Engineering, leading the department to secure a full ABET accreditation
in 2022. He served as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Surgery with the School
of Medicine at Washington University in Saint Louis, MO. "I am honored to be selected as the new chair of the Department of Industrial and
Systems Engineering and truly grateful for Dr. Scherrer’s amazing leadership for the
last several years. These are big shoes to fill, but I will strive to take SPCEET’s
Industrial and Systems Engineering Programs to the next level and foster a welcoming
community for students, faculty, and staff to excel. I look forward to working closely
with all ISYE faculty, staff, students and alumni, and the SPCEET leadership to advance
the prominent ISYE program at KSU." Dr. Cho earned his bachelor's and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from
Seoul National University, Korea, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from The Pennsylvania
State University.
