My own international experience began with an overseas assignment with serving in the United States Air Force. I was stationed in Japan but visited numerous countries in the Orient which opened my eyes to how differently people live around the world. My first industry job was based in the United States, but early in my career I worked for an international company based in Paris, France. I learned to function within the multi-national engineering organization that included a research and development group in Nice that employed a wide variety of nationalities in the engineering ranks. Soon after that experience I joined a Silicon Valley startup and represented the company on the international standards body setting the specifications from many global suppliers for the use of tunable lasers within optical telecommunication systems. I have traveled extensively in Europe on a student budget, and will assist the students with many tips for places to visit (and strategies to avoid pickpockets!).I gained Study Abroad experience as an instructor in undergraduate study abroad programs during the summer 2019, I look forward to more effectively mentoring these students as they engage in a potentially life-altering experience.
